In Mountain Ave. house with '63 Fender Telecaster I had since age 21, recently stolen along with my van. Van was found, guitar wasn't. The mandolin, an early-1920s Gibson, still lives with me

Early 1990s: Poker with Carl Herzig and toddler/pokershark Liana, two of my absolute bestest people

Publicity blurb for Doctor Syntax, novel purchased and produced by Vintage Books under their Black Lizard noir imprint, 1990. Things happened, editors moved as they often do in publishing, and Capra Press ended up with the rights. Their edition came out in 1991

Michael Lorimer, close family friend since childhood and extraordinary classical guitarist, at the memorial for his father Mike Lorimer (actually Walter M., but nobody called him that) at the SB riviera home of Mike and Annie Lorimer. The latter was my mom's best friend, and is at the time of this writing in her nineties; I visit her every week.

More photos of North Shore trip; much gratitude to Janni for giving up one of our Christmas celebrations in Hana, Maui, to make this dream of mine possible. Below, on the road to K'aena Point

Every year until my cousin Marshall's passing in 2016, he, my cousin Bert, sister Francie and I would get together somewhere on the west coast for a Cousin Convergence of several days, in which we would play medieval, renaissance and baroque music on recorders and eat at Italian restauraunts. This year, July of 2000, we met in Santa Cruz and ate at Avanti every night because we've found nothing better anywhere

Marshall and Bert getting medieval with their recorders. Check out those same two flanking me and my mom fifty years earlier

Christmas 2001 on Padre Street, with Janni, Marshall, F&G, and a very young and energetic Selam

This picture would be identical in any summer over the past several decades: Carl Herzig and I talking about everything and nothing at Bates beach around the corner from Rincon, with Stella on camera ... and, over the years, their kids Liana, Jam and/or Irene playing in the sand or ocean or with us: one of the most constant and nurturing rituals of our lives
